Sefolosha suffered a fractured fibula early Wednesday morning while being arrested outside a club in New York. Police said Sefolosha and teammate Pero Antic, who was also arrested, were interfering with a crime scene and resisting arrest after Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed outside the club.

A video obtained by TMZ shows an officer swinging a baton at Sefolosha’s lower body after other officers have taken the player to the ground.

After the National Basketball Players Association said Friday it was looking into the incident, the league itself followed suit Saturday.

“We are working with the Hawks organization and local law enforcement to obtain more information about the circumstances surrounding Thabo’s arrest,” NBA spokesman Michael Bass told ESPN.com.

ESPN also reported that the NYPD was reviewing the arrest.

Antic said Friday he and Sefolosha were not with Copeland at the club and only came upon the scene after the Pacers player had been attacked. Even then, Antic indicated, the two Atlanta players did nothing wrong.

“There’s a video out that speaks for itself,” Antic said, via ESPN.com. “The only thing I can say is that we feel bad for the bad publicity that we brought to the Hawks organization and the Hawks family.”
