James is averaging 25.6 points, 7.8 assists and 5.5 boards while shooting 49 percent from the field. And the Cavs, after an uneven start, have won eight of 11.

James already has four MVP trophies to his name, and comes in as the +125 chalk on our mock odds board to take home the award again. Wagering on awards such as NBA MVP, of course, is not allowed in Las Vegas.

There are a number of contenders vying with LeBron for the crown. Stephen Curry (7-to-2), Anthony Davis (6-to-1) and James Harden (7-to-1) will have a lot to say about whom ultimately gets named NBA’s best player.

Curry is the top scorer (23.5) and assister (7.6) on the NBA’s top team.  Even more impressive than his numbers or the Warriors’ 19-3 record is Curry’s efficiency. He shoots 48 percent from the field, 39 percent from three and 92 percent from the line.

As impressive as Curry is, Davis has matched him step-for-step in his third season. You could go on about Davis’ statistical dominance, but his league-leading 33.6 Player Efficiency Rating – six points higher than DeMarcus Cousins at No. 2 – sums it up succinctly. The largest card stacked against Davis is the Pelicans’ playoff chances. It’s looking like they’ll be in a dogfight for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, and missing the postseason would be a huge knock against his candidacy.

Finally, Harden is no stranger to big numbers, and he’s been stuffing stat sheets all season. His MVP campaign gained strength when he averaged 29.1 points per game during an 11-game stretch in which the Rockets went 8-3 despite the absence of Dwight Howard. His numbers aren’t as good as Davis’ (or Curry’s for that matter) and the Rockets aren’t as good as the Warriors – at the moment – but Harden is clearly a strong MVP candidate nonetheless.
