Today uncertainty has reigned supreme, as the response to a rapidly evolving situation has changed hour by hour. The largest announcement of the day for most gamers is the cancellation of E3. An unprecedented move for the 25 year expo—the video game industry’s longest running and (arguably) most important event—but one made with respect to the well-being of the developers and producers who would have been in attendance, as well as the public who would have made their way to the Los Angeles Convention Center in June.

As more Coronavirus cases are being confirmed, and with the government taking steps to prevent infection, the NBA is the latest to take a cautious approach in dealing with the COVID-19 coronavirus. The NBA announced it will be suspending its season indefinitely, using the time away to “determine next steps moving forward in response to the coronavirus pandemic.” This announcement comes as Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus, with those results being released just before tip off of Utah’s game tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder. All scheduled games after tonight will be postponed as the league takes time to assess how best to deal with this fluid situation.

The NBA is the first of the major North American sporting leagues to take action with regard to the coronavirus, while the National Hockey League has said it will consult with medical experts before making a decision on the matter.

While the action on the court has been stellar, it has been a rocky year for the NBA with the passing of legend Kobe Bryant last month, and now the coronavirus shutting the season down until further notice.

With the NBA season on hold, gamers will have to take to the courts of NBA 2K20 to get their basketball fix. Hopefully after this hiatus the NBA will be able to finish out the season, but for now the health of the players, arena staff, and fans is the most important issue at hand.
